Hexham
The centre of the Market Town of Hexham is just a short, fairly level walk away, here you can find many interesting shops and a variety of eating houses, including a super Indian and a Bistro.

Hexham has a wonderful Abbey dating back to the foundation by St Wilfred in 674AD.  There has been a market every Tuesday for many centuries, You can visit the oldest jail in England which is now a museum, and the Moot Hall which was once the capital of the medieval county of Hexhamshire.

There is a National Hunt racecourse, a new Olympic length swimming pool, and a running track where you may see some of our best athletes.

If you feel like walking there is a lovely path along the river Tyne where there is much wildlife to be spotted, a short walk will take you to Warden where there is a lovely old Pub to stop for lunch.

Further afield there is Hadrian's Wall to explore, and visit all the interesting Roman sites.  The city of Newcastle with it's wonderful Quay side is only 20 miles away, In the other direction is Carlisle and the gateway to the Lakes.

Rosemary Cottage is a good place to stay if you just want to rest for a night on your journey.
